Physical and chemical properties:

Crystal structure: It belongs to the equiaxed crystal system, which is cubic, octahedron or dodecahedron. Colorless crystal or white powder, natural ore contains impurities, slightly green or purple. Glows when heated. The density is 3.18 g/cm3, the melting point is 1402°C, the boiling point is 2497°C, and the refractive index is 1.434. Low toxicity. Very difficult to dissolve in water. It is soluble in hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid and ammonium salt solutions, but insoluble in acetone. When dissolved in aluminum salt and iron salt solution, it forms a complex and reacts with hot concentrated sulfuric acid to generate hydrofluoric acid. Calcium fluoride reacts with concentrated sulfuric acid in a lead container to produce hydrogen fluoride.

Preparation:Dissolve calcium carbonate or calcium hydroxide with hydrofluoric acid, concentrate the resulting solution, or add fluoride ions to the calcium salt aqueous solution to obtain a colloidal precipitate of calcium fluoride, which can be obtained by refining. The laboratory generally prepares calcium fluoride by reacting calcium carbonate with hydrofluoric acid or repeatedly treating fluorite powder with concentrated hydrochloric acid and hydrofluoric acid.

Calcium fluoride minerals in nature are fluorite or fluorspar, which are gray, yellow, green, purple and other colors due to different impurities. Sometimes they are colorless, transparent, glassy, brittle, and have a relative density of 3.01~3.25. Significant fluorescence phenomenon. The synthetic pure calcium fluoride crystals are also colorless and transparent.Very pure fluorspar is used to make special lenses. Fluorite is mainly used as a cosolvent for smelting metals.
