Nickel fluoride is an inorganic compound with a chemical formula of NiF2. It is a yellow-green tetragonal crystal. It is hygroscopic and slightly soluble in water.
Physical and chemical properties:
Shape: yellow-green or light yellow tetragonal crystals, hygroscopic, slightly soluble in water, solubility at 25°C is about 2.5%, also slightly soluble in anhydrous hydrogen fluoride, easily soluble in hydrofluoric acid, dilute sulfuric acid, dilute Nitric acid. It is relatively stable and slowly transforms into oxide when it reaches the melting point temperature.
Hydrolyzability: Hydrolysis is acidic, so it can't be packed in glass containers.
Nature and stability:The property is relatively stable, and slowly transforms into oxide at the melting point temperature. Sublimation when heated above 1000°C in HF airflow. Slightly soluble in water. Soluble in acid, alkali, ammonia and ether; insoluble in ethanol.
Nickel fluoride can be prepared by reacting nickel chloride with fluorine gas at 350°C:
NiCl2+F2→ NiF2+Cl2
